Let’s Talk About Therapy

We all experience challenges in our lives. Sometimes we’re able to handle these challenges with ease and other times we can become overwhelmed. Often, how we manage at any given time comes down to the level of stress we experience in our day to day lives. Other times, how we cope is impacted by significant loss or trauma.

Therapy (or counseling) offers the support of somebody skilled at helping you to navigate life’s challenges. It is a process that should be able to immediately provide you with some tools to help navigate life a little more easily and confidence that you’re being proactive about accomplishing whatever goals brought you here.

It can also be some pretty hard work.

You are likely looking to work on some potentially long-standing patterns, to learn some new ways of approaching your goals, and to take steps forward in ways that may be new and unfamiliar.

We all have different access to things in our life that support us in this work, as well as variables that can make it more challenging. This is all to say that everybody’s path is different.

For some, therapy lasts for a few months, others a few years, and some see it as a commitment that they come and go from throughout life. There's no right or wrong answer but one thing to know is therapy is generally not a "quick fix". The good news is that there is evidence to support that though therapy takes longer to work than medication, its effects last longer. We are here to support you on your path.

You’re investing in a deep-reaching and holistic approach to growth and healing.

We're honored to get to be part of this process.

Who May Be a Good Fit with NCC?

  • People ready to work hard while looking at life patterns and identifying which are serving them well and which they want to evolve and change to make room for growth toward their goals.

  • People who may be nervous about therapy that would appreciate a more down to earth, relational model that's engaged and collaborative.

  • People who want to feel seen in their wholeness and reminded of their strengths while they make forward movement.

  • People who would appreciate an approach which acknowledges systemic oppression as part of many people's lived experiences and strives to understand and incorporate your own cultural values and experiences into our work together.

  • People ready to listen to their bodies to guide them to the root of their needs.

Our Approach

We believe in an integrative approach to counseling. This means that we borrow from many different theories and methods and most importantly, believe in being empowerment-focused and client-centered in whatever we do.

Our goal is to help you to move beyond the stories we all get caught up in that distance us from ourselves and each other and into easier identification and communication of core needs so you can feel more connected with yourself and others. We’ll pay attention to your body as a guide and follow it into learning more about your underlying needs and will practice new ways of getting those needs met. We’ll also assist you in achieving your personal goals by helping you to explore your own strengths, as well as self-defeating patterns, to develop tools and strategies for success, to strengthen your support system, and to recognize and remove barriers to achieving your goals. *See our individual pages to learn more about specific populations we specialize in!
